Broccoli May Help for Age Related Diseases
There is new scientific research from UCLA that suggests a chemical found in broccoli may strengthen the immun system, enabling it to fight off the diseases of aging. The researchers identified sulforaphane, a nutrient found in broccoli, facilitates antioxidant pathways on the cellular level.
According to the report, if this nutrient is injected into the immune cells of the skin of elderly mice, it activates a set of antioxidant genes and enzymes to fight free radicals of oxygen.
This means that broccoli could protect the immune system from age related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and arthritis. It also helps the liver to detoxify carcinogenic substances. The research also found that it could protect against respiratory inflammation that causes conditions such as asthma.
More research needs to be done, but for now, it may be a good idea to start eating more broccoli if you aren't eating much.
